Training at HAGH

Areas for student training

Postgraduate student training and innovation is a key component of my programme: HIV/AIDS & Global Health (HAGH), at the University of Venda, South Africa www.univen.ac.za. Postgraduate students: masters, doctoral, and postdoctoral fellows are trained in the areas of molecular virology, biotechnology, and global health. We apply the values of equity and diversity in the selection of applicants. The goal of our efforts in postgraduate student training in biomedical training is to equip individuals with the skill sets that lend to independent research careers, positions in industry, and entrepreneurship. Since 2012, efforts in biomedical training has produced more than 20 doctoral and 40 research master students, the majority of whom are females. In addition, HAGH has hosted postdoctoral fellows and visiting scientists from Kenya, Nigeria, Cameroon, and the United States. Student training is embedded in research projects and students benefit from our collaborative research and student training initiatives. https://bessongthemicrobiologist.com/hiv-and-global-health-research/

Supplementary training

Core training is supplemented to enforce the acquisition of skills and competences in the areas of gene expression, genomics, bioinformatics, applied ethics, scientific writing and oral communication. Supplementary training is organized after a needs assessment to close gaps in the knowledge base and technical know-how. Our training is sometimes opened to students from other universities and institutions.
