Meet the Symposium Chair and Keynote Speakers
Letter from the Chair

Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to welcome you to the 2nd Annual Symposium on Antimicrobial Resistance and Global Health organized by the SAMRC-UNIVEN Antimicrobial Resistance and Global Health Research Unit. I would like to offer special thanks to delegates traveling from other parts of South Africa; and to delegates participating virtually, particularly from Brazil, Cameroon, Uganda, and the United States of America. I appreciate your dedication to antimicrobial resistance research, community engagement, and training for global health imperatives.
The theme for this symposium is ‘Antimicrobial resistance and the community.’
During our two days together, we would engage with key elements of this theme such as coproduction of evidence with communities to promote antimicrobial stewardship, and ethics in community-based research. I hope that during the symposium we will deepen existing relationships and make new ones. I am grateful to the South African Medical Research Council and National Research Foundation for the finances to organize this important engagement and to the management of the University of Venda for supporting our initiatives.
I am also grateful to Drs Lufuno Mavhandu-Ramarumo, Cloupas Mahopo, and Mukhethwa Munzhedzi for overseeing the management and logistics for this symposium. I look forward to our time together in Sibasa, as well as our future collaborative endeavours. I wish you all a fruitful engagement.
